Horses for Sale
- Calling all horse loving kids! Spunky Ranch along with Stable Acre is putting on two 3-hour clinics on March 16, 2024. This riding experience will provide memories that last a lifetime.
- Each child will be assigned their own horse to ride. They will start off on the ground learning basic horse safety. This will include how to safely be around a horse and groom a horse.
- Next they will move into the arena to ride horseback. There they will learn how horses communicate and how they can effectively communicate with their horse and tell their horse where to go and what to do.
- They will also learn about correct riding posture and how when they don’t ride correctly this leads to accidentally mis-communicating with their horse.
- Finally, after getting to spend some time riding, they will get to move on to some basic rodeo events.
- This clinic is designed for kids between the ages of 6-14 that do not own their own horse. They will be provided with saddles and beginner level horses. Beginner level horses are true gems and due to only having a limited number of these unicorns, each clinic will be limited to 6 riders.
- The clinics will be held just outside of Waco at Top Hand Cowboy Church. Session 1 will be 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and Session 2 will be 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

Kristen Hoagland
Kristen Hoagland has a deep and rooted passion for the sport of rodeo and loves sharing it with others, including all five of her children. She grew up in Victoria, Texas, and has competed in pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping, cutting, and mainly barrel racing. She loves introducing students to horses and the sport of rodeo and has been doing so for over 11 years. It is a joy for her to share what she loves with her family and all of those around her!

Jamie Jones
Jamie Jones is a mom of 3 young kiddos- all pursuing their dreams in the rodeo world. Her love for horses goes all the way back to her childhood, however she has just gotten to pursue her horse dreams in her late 20s with her kids in tow. She’s spent years teaching kids and has now loved seeing her two worlds collide. She helps start a solid foundation on their riding, forming good habits that will carry on with them to new levels of riding. Her favorite is seeing their faces light up when they spend time sharing in one of her biggest joys in life, being horseback. She sees the deep value horses bring into someone’s life, and the long-term lessons they teach them.
Meet the Horses!
Taz
A welsh-pony that does it all. At the old age of 27 he is still going strong and loves to be ridden and loved on by kids. Taz knows how to rope and knows all the rodeo speed events. Even though he knows how to compete, he also loves to go out for rides in the pasture. He’s Julia Hoagland’s main mount and has taught her so many things about how to ride and have good horsemanship.
JJ
JJ is a 18 year old Red Roan Quarter Horse. He is our old faithful. Tried and True. Has spent his life as a main cowboy mount roping steers and now enjoys the leisure life of teaching beginners.
Violet
Violet is a paint Shetland pony that has spent most of her life teaching kids to ride. She has been a rodeo pony and is seasoned to all types of riders. She is sweet as can be and kids of all ages quickly fall in love with her. She is a great confidence builder.
Maverick
Maverick is a 16 year old dark Palomino Quarter Horse. Sweetest heart, and loves to be with his people. Truly enjoys going for a ride and is so gentle and forgiving. Meets you in the pasture and loves attention.
Rose
Rose is a Shetland pony that has taught countless kids to ride. She is light and listens well to her rider. She has been a rodeo pony for most of her life and is the first horse all five of the Hoagland kids learned to ride on!
Molly
Molly is a 9 year old Paint quarter pony- sweet and kind as can be, and so very gentle with beginner hands. She will also never turn down a treat and some scratches!
Fancy
Fancy is a sorrel quarter horse and is as sweet as they come. There is not a mean bone in her body.
She listens to her rider and tries to do whatever they ask of her. Fancy loves to be brushed and loved
on. She is also a big fan of treats!
Q&A
Do I have to have riding experience?
No, you do not have to have riding experience. This camp is designed for beginners.
Do I have to have a horse?
No, you do not have to have a horse; we have 6 horses available for use. In some cases, your child may need to schedule a private prior to camp to make sure he/she will be a fit with their horse.
How many kids will be at camp?
Each session is limited to 6 kids. This is because we want to keep groups small enough for kids to have the opportunity to make good progress with their riding.
Is there a price break if I have my own horse?
There is not a price break if you have your own horse. This horse is designed with beginners, who do not own a horse, in mind.
Who will be teaching us?
Kristen Hoagland and Jaime Jones will be instructing the kids.
What gear will I need?
All students are required to wear jeans and boots. Any student that shows up without boots will not be allowed to ride independently. If it is a cool day, please send jackets or sweatshirts with your kids. Helmets are recommended but not required. IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD TO WEAR A HELMET YOU NEED TO PURCHASE IT AND BRING IT TO CAMP. FOR HELMETS TO BE EFFECTIVE THEY MUST FIT PROPERLY AND NEED TO BE FIT TO EACH INDIVIDUAL KID WEARING THEM. IF THEY DO NOT FIT PROPERLY, THEY ARE A DISTRACTION AND NUISANCE.
What will happen if the weather is bad?
If the weather causes it to be unsafe to ride, each student will be given a credit for another clinic or riding lessons with Spunky Ranch or Stable Acre.
